Homework #4
So for this weeks homework I chose to do 2 choices, to write about a Korean artist and make a poster promoting different types of Korean art.
Byeon Sang-byeok 변상벽; 卞相璧.
Byeon was a royal canimal painter who lived sometime in the late 17th and 18th centuries, he is mainly known for painting cats. Byeon loved animals and just loved to observe cats and watch them doing what cats love to do. Byeon was known for his very detailed brushstrokes that showed a lot of expression. Byeon Sang-byeok was a painter who is not very well-known in the West, but he was most definently an amazing cat artist. Byeon painted upclose and paid attention to the intricate detial of the cats rather than other art that is in 'Chinese style'
This is Byeon's most famous painting late Myojakdo meaning 'Painting of Cats and Sparrows'

3rd week of Kpop academy.
Yesterday was our 3rd week of the kpop academy, war day. A veteran from the Korean war Brigadier Brian Parritt came in to tell us his fascinating story. I am so thankful for him sharing his story with us, I learnt so many things that I wanted know about the Korean war and history. I now have such a better understanding of Korea and now feel like I can appreciate it so much more. I had no idea so many other countries like America, Russia, Poland, Malaysia etc were involved in the War. After his talk we all got a copy of his book 'Chinese Hordes And Human Waves' personally signed to us that I will definitely be reading. We then watched a film 'Joint Secretary area.' It was really nice to be able to go home and tell my mum everything so that she also had a better understanding and appreciation

2nd week of kpop academy. (History Week)
So Saturday was our second week at the kpop academy. When I got there I was pretty early so I managed to read the whole of a book on Korean Cosmetics. Then we had to go into the main room and take a seat. We then had a lecture on the history of Korea. I had no idea that there were so many different aspects of Korean history and so many different stories and traditions, our teacher pretty much covered everything. The story I liked the most was the one about the Bear and the Tiger. We learnt about the nations, kings and invasions. I feel like I definitely have a better understanding of Korea and can definitely appreciate it a lot more. It only makes me want to visit even more. We then learnt about the March 1st movement so after a quick break we then had to make our own Korean flag, I loved this because I love making things. Here's a photo of the flag I made. I had no idea that it represent Yin and Yang and the different elements.
